Ford Cobra Jet wiring and engine control in a BMW E46

For this drift BMW E46, the build team chose a supercharged Ford 5.2 Cobra Jet V8. AFTERFIX handled the electrical side of the swap and the engine calibration.

What the control system needed

The system had to support electronic throttle, variable timing on all four camshafts, boost control, twin lambda sensors and cylinder-specific knock monitoring, plus alternator control and flex fuel. The harness also had to connect power distribution, the display and the driver's controls.

Schematics, wiring and integration

We designed the engine and vehicle circuits, prepared connector pinouts and manufactured the complete harness. The diagrams give the team a reference for servicing and future changes.

We configured the devices to work together. The driver can select a calibrated power mode from the CAN keypad.

Remote dyno calibration

We prepared the base map, programmed the system and calibrated the engine under load. The car was on the dyno in Poland while Oleg Zaytsev worked remotely from Barcelona. The team commissioned the car and raised power in stages. With a 3.375-inch supercharger pulley, that session recorded 1,063 PS and 1,155 Nm.
