Custom wiring harness design and manufacture

We design and build custom wiring harnesses for road and race cars, watercraft and specialist machinery. Our experience also includes wiring for light aircraft.

Wiring harnesses

A new engine, a different gearbox or a move to a programmable ECU can change how the whole electrical system needs to work. Tell us what you're building. We'll help you decide what the harness needs to support, where the equipment should go and how to make the finished installation easy to commission and service.

Wiring designed around the whole vehicle

Before drawing a schematic, we look at what the engine controller needs, what data the gearbox expects, how much current the pumps and fans draw which sensors will be needed at calibration and which functions the owner wants to keep or add. Then we agree on power distribution, circuit protection, signal connections and communications between modules. Routing takes heat, moisture, vibration and service access into account.

That approach comes from over 25 years of hands-on work with cars, including mechanics, engines, wiring, electronics, calibration and motorsport. It helps us bring the different requirements together while the design is still on paper.

An electrical partner for your workshop

If your team is building a car, carrying out an engine swap or preparing a race car, we can handle the wiring design and manufacture. Bring us in during component selection or when the build is already underway. We'll agree on the hardware, connection points, routing and installation sequence with your team.

We can build a standalone engine loom, wire a specific assembly or take on the whole vehicle. Depending on the project, we can also support installation, device configuration, first start and calibration. Some of that work can be done remotely with your team on site. This gives workshops the engineering support to take on more complex builds for their customers.

What we build

  • Engine harnesses for ECUs, sensors, injectors, ignition and engine auxiliaries.
  • Chassis harnesses for pumps, fans, lighting, instruments and driver controls.
  • Engine and transmission swap harnesses to connect the new powertrain to the selected controls and vehicle systems.
  • Motorsport harnesses for standalone ECUs, power distribution modules, displays, CAN keypads and data logging.
  • Custom harnesses for individual assemblies and specialist equipment, built for the available space and operating environment.

We have extensive experience with 12 V and 24 V systems. For other systems, we review the operating voltage, loads and protection requirements for the application.

Autosport wiring and mil-spec wiring

We build looms for motorsport and other demanding applications using mil-spec components and Raychem (TE Connectivity) materials, including the Raychem System 25 approach. Depending on the build, we use Raychem Spec 55 wire, DR-25 heat-shrink sleeving, moulded boots, adhesives and DEUTSCH Autosport connectors.

We select the components as a system, taking sealing, strain relief, temperature and exposure to fuel and oils into account. Concentric twisting is one option where a compact, flexible loom is useful. We select the construction and materials for the operating conditions, layout and budget, with installation, servicing and future changes in mind.

A closer look at the harness

Build it so the next service is easier

We plan the branch points, mounting and disconnects around the order in which the vehicle goes together and the parts that will need to come out. If you're likely to add sensors or equipment later, we can discuss provisions while the loom is still being designed.

Depending on the scope, documentation can include schematics, connector pinouts, labels and a harness layout. That gives the workshop, the next mechanic or a future owner a reference for installation, diagnostics and changes.

In practice: a BMW with a supercharged Ford V8

For a BMW E46 with a Cobra Jet V8, we designed the circuits and pinouts, built the complete race harness and integrated an ECUMaster EMU PRO-8 ECU, PMU-16 power distribution module, ADU 7 dash and CAN keypad.

We then programmed and calibrated the car remotely from Barcelona while the car was on the dyno in Poland. The wiring, power distribution, control logic and service access were all considered together.

Tell us what you're building

Send a short description, photos and a list of the equipment already installed or planned. Include any schematics, pinouts or drawings you have. We can also help while you're still choosing components. We'll agree on the information needed, a practical approach and what it takes to estimate cost and timing.

An idea, a photo or a parts list is enough to start.
